AKDH Woodhill Downhill

I woke up to rain on my roof, the sky's had opened over night and it was the day of the race. I knew this would be good for the sandy course and I couldn't wait to get on my new bike.

The Woodhill Downhill has been running for a few years now and it has always been such a fun event. In conjunction with the 16 inch national champs this event always gets a good turnout. From downhillers to cross country racers and weekend warriors this race is fun for all.
As the first shuttle went up for practice the rain began to ease, I still had my jacket on because of the chill in the air. After the first run I picked some new lines after the rain had created puddles in the track. The sandy sections of the track were now running mint, as for Woodhills new clay burns, well they were now slick.

The numbers kept on rolling in and by the time the first race runs came around there were almost 100 riders. There was a awesome atmosphere at the top it seemed like everyone was enjoying the event whether they were there to race, ride or pin it on a 16 inch kids bike.

I must have been so focused before my start that I did not hear the timers say you 'go' on GO. (This might sound logical but in other DH races you usually go within the five seconds as you brake the beam when you get to the bottom of the ramp). I didn't even hear the 'go' I was already gone which cost me a 5 second penalty. My first race run didn't go to plan anyway, I made a couple of mistakes and ended up having to go around the double.
Lucky for me this event was formatted with two race runes so I was pumped to give it my all in the second race run. The chill was back at the top of the hill as I warmed up for my second run. This time I waited for the 'go' before I got on the gas. With my new Scott Scale 950 underneath me I could pedal over everything. This time flew over the double and pedalled harder than ever into the last section. I hit all my lines and was stoked with my run and the way my bike preformed.
Finished second in the under 19.

Getting loose on small wheels down the last section!

Turned out mum had entered me for the 16" national champs so it was back up to the top for the most fun race run ever!

Well done to the Jafakids and everyone else who competed. Thanks to all the spectators for their support and AKDH for organising such a great event.I look forward to seeing even more riders there next year.
